•Check out EC Software's free  SnipSVG screenshot and graphics program. This program has the same powerful screen capture engine with very extensive editing capabilities for enhancing your screenshots.

The screen capture tool can also be used to extract text from the selected area and insert it in your project as plain text. In addition to this, you can extract text from any image already in the editor by right-clicking on it and selecting OCR from the context menu.

Using OCR with the capture tool

Click in the editor where you want to insert the captured text. Then select the capture tool in the Project tab, then select Capture Text from the menu displayed. The text will be copied to the clipboard and inserted at the current cursor position.

Language: You can select the languages installed in Windows as system languages. If only one language is installed there will be no additional choices.

Extracting text from images in the editor

You can use Help+Manual's OCR function to extract the text from any image in the editor. Just right-click on the image and select Picture > Extract Text from Picture from the context menu displayed.

Note that the extraction language is set automatically, based on the last time you used the screen capture function in the capture tool. To change the language you need to use the capture tool again.

You may want make screen captures for editing, without inserting them in your topic directly. To do this use the screen capture feature in EC Software's free  SnipSVG screenshot and graphics program.

In addition to its powerful and flexible screen capture capabilities, SnipSVG is also a powerful graphics editing program that allows you to enhance your images with callouts (text bubbles), text, additional images and much more. It uses SVG vector graphics for all components, ensuring that your images will look great at all zoom settings.

SnipSVG can save either directly as SVG files or in its own SnipX format. SnipX files can be inserted directly in Help+Manual and are exported as SVG images. However, if necessary, you can configure your CHM export options to convert SVG files to PNG for compatibility with older systems and this will also export SnipX files as PNG.

On some Windows systems you may experience that the screen capture function doesn't seem to work. When you start the capture you don't see the selection border around the windows or elements you want to capture and no captures are made. This is caused by permissions restrictions in your Windows account that are preventing you from capturing elements from applications with different permissions.

Solution: Start Help+Manual in Administrator mode

The solution is simple, just start Help+Manual in Administrator mode:

1.Close Help+Manual (or Impict if you started it independently, outside of Help+Manual).

2.Right-click on the program item for starting Help+Manual (or Impict if you are starting it outside of Help+Manual) and select Run as Administrator in the context menu.

You will then have maximum permissions, which will also allow you to perform capture functions on all other applications.
