Installing SnipSVG is quick and easy. You basically just need to open the installer and follow the instructions displayed.
After you have downloaded the installer just double-click on it to start it. Choose All Users if you have administrator access You are first asked whether you want to install it for your own account or for all users. If you have administrator access to your computer we recommend the All Users option. SnipSVG will then be saved in the standard Program Files directory on Windows. The Me Only option – use also for Portable mode Choose this option if you don't have administrator access or for trying out the program quickly. Also choose this option for Portable mode if you want to install the program on a USB thumb drive or removable external drive.
Basic installation Selecting either of these options starts the setup wizard. Click Next, check and confirm the software agreement, then choose where you want to install the program. We recommend just accepting the default location. Portable mode
The screen for choosing the installation location includes an option for a "portable" installation. This allows you to install SnipSVG on a USB thumb drive or removable external drive. Then it will install all its reference files together with the main program so that you can move it around. Use the Me Only option for this (see above), otherwise you will be asked for administrator rights and the installer will select Program Files as the default location. Options and installation After this, continue to select your options for the Start menu folder, desktop shortcut and Start menu entry. Here too, you can generally just accept the defaults. Then select Install in the final screen to install the program. Storage Location for Program Options SnipSVG saves user preferences by default in the (hidden) folder: C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\com.ecsoftware.snipsvg\ It creates the file SnipSVG.ini, which stores program options, recent files and other configuration elements. In addition to this INI file, it writes a file called Favorites.snipx to the same folder. The favorites file stores favorite objects and default settings for new objects. It can be opened and edited like any other .SnipX file. When you opt for the portable installation, these two files are created in the installation folder instead. The installation folder must be writable. So, when you start SnipSVG from an USB drive, it saves back the configuration to the same USB drive. In portable mode, SnipSVG runs in "stealth mode" (i.e. it does not store anything on the hard drive of the computer). |
Installing for macOS couldn't be easier: 1.Double-click on the downloaded installation file to open it. 2.Drag the SnipSVG icon in the window shown onto the Applications folder icon. That's it. SnipSVG is then installed. Storage Location for Program Options SnipSVG saves user preferences in the macOS Application Support folder: /Users/<username>/Library/Application Support/com.ecsoftware.snipsvg/ It creates the file SnipSVG.ini, which stores program options, recent files and other configuration elements. In addition to this INI file, it writes a file called Favorites.snipx to the same folder. The favorites file stores favorite objects and default settings for new objects. It can be opened and edited like any other .SnipX file. |
